Climate

Melbourne has a temperate, oceanic climate with four distinct seasons: spring, summer, autumn, and winter. The city is famous for its unpredictable weather, but sunshine is abundant throughout the year.

Thanks to its geographic location, Melbourne enjoys long daylight hours during summer and shorter days in winter. Temperatures in Melbourne rarely drop below 0°C (32°F).

To adapt to the city’s changeable weather, we recommend wearing layers that can be added or removed as needed.

Below is a table of yearly averages:

Electricity

The electrical current in Australia is 240/250 volts AC, 50 Hz. Travelers from most countries in Asia, Africa, and Europe generally have appliances compatible with Australia’s voltage, so a voltage converter is usually unnecessary.

However, notable exceptions include Japan, the USA, and Canada, which use 100/120V 50/60Hz. Please check your appliances before plugging them in. If needed, you can purchase a converter at most electronics stores, airports, or online—or simply buy a new appliance in Australia.

Melbourne also features a FREE TRAM ZONE, where trips within the zone are completely free—yes, free transport !

Below, you’ll find a map of the free tram zone.
